next gen of catalogue
Today, consumers are becoming smarter. They look for extra services and value. They want to 'feel' what these 'extras' they are getting before commiting to a purchase. Especially when it comes to jewellery. One obvious evidence is custom remodelling has been growing in the past decade and is still growing. A piece of jewellery is among the most personal purchases you can make. Whether it is a gift to themselves or to someone they love, it needs to feel personal to whoever is going to be wearing it. With this added layer of purchase pressure, CADalogue goes a long way in instilling buyer confidence, engagement, and ultimately, purchase.
Catalogues as we all know in paper or digital form are represented mostly in still images, sometimes videos, rarely interactive. Static images may soon no longer satisfy consumer’s need. Videos or interactive catalogue are relatively expensive to produce that explains why you don't see them often. However, CADalogue is going to change this.
In jewellery trade, a customer may pick a 2D picture from some catalogue then present it to their merchant. The merchant will then get a designer to start designing the piece. Often there will be some guess works and different intepretations as in how the design really look like from a flat still picture and inevitably error could easily occur. When the customer finally satisfies with the design a 3D file for production is then generated. A prototype may get 3D printed beforehand for customer’s approval. Otherwise the 3D file is passed around to varies jewellers for production through manufacturing process.
As we can see, there are many steps involved. The process can be quite lengthy and costly. Sometimes risky, if the design at the end is not how the customer imagine the picture they supplied to be like. Time may even change customer mind during the whole lengthy process such as wait a few days for a sample prototype to get printed through a third party.
CADalogue advances from traditional still image catalogue to production ready 3D CADalogue. It is a catalogue where fingers can move the design to see every corner of it. There will be no guess work as in how the design looks like. And that is not just it, it can get 3D printed immediately just like how you would print an image on paper, which means customers can now have the real size three dimensional design held in their hands while still in your shop. The design on CADalogue can be modified or sent for production directly to save time and cost by encapsulating all processes within one CADalogue system.
With the price of hi-res 3D printer price dropped to the price of home paper printer, all jewellery stores today should own at least one hi-res printer to couple with CADalogue making use of its massive printable CAD file database.
In the jewellery trade, rubber mould has been used for reproduction. Today CADalogue is your own shelf holding your digital rubber, which you click and print the model anytime instead of calling your supplier to pump wax out from rubber sitting on someone else's shelves.
